When it comes to loving yourself it is not something that will happen over night. It is a long long journey if you have never been taught how to/are constantly comparing yourself to the glossy manipulated photoshop images that are subconsciously downloaded to our brains everyday wether it is on our phone, in magazines, all throughout the tube station, it's everywhere. So teaching yourself that you are not to be held to these false beauty standards will take time. 5 ways you can begin on the journey of self love, are:
1. Create a self-love ritual.
Turn off the TV and unplug from social media for 15 minutes to get centered. Whether it be having a relaxing bath with essential oils and calming aromas, or reading a book or simply ringing a friend.
2. Make a “What’s Working for Me" list.
You always hear that to love someone else you must first learn to love yourself. But In order to really love yourself sometimes you have to recognise all the love you have around you. One of the practices to do when feeling down is to go within and acknowledge what's really working, then make a “What’s Working for Me” list. Once you see it on paper and accept all of the positivity in your life, it will make it that much easier to love yourself.
3. Know that your body is a loving vessel.
Treating your body like a loving vessel will not only boost your self-love, but also your energy. Be intentional about what you put into your body, not only because you want to look good but because you want to feel good. Feeding your body nutrient-rich foods will have you oozing love out of every pore.
4. Do something you're good at.
If this isn’t the ultimate self-esteem booster, I don’t know what is! Self-esteem and self-love often go hand in hand, and participating in a hobby you're good at will not only boost your endorphins, but will bring out the best version of you. If you love to cook, then cook! If you love to run, then grab those sneakers, head outside and run for your life.
5. Find your happy place.
Think of a place that makes it simple to just be. That means being able to sit quietly and embrace the here and now. Not thinking about what's due at work or what bills need to be paid, you owe this happy place to yourself. Self-love is all about connecting with yourself, and one of the easiest places to do that is your happy place.
We had to work for a long to become one with our bodies and learn to love em as we have accepted that we all come in different shapes ad sizes with lumps and bumps. When we embrace them it is what sets us women apart and makes everyone unique in there own skin.
Ultimately when you practise self love you will begin to build confidence. Confidence is where your self love will grow as you’ll start to believe in yourself and it will exude onto others. Confidence is key in any work place, industry or general lifestyle, it is about embracing and loving yourself. As soon as you learn to do this, you'll begin to thrive and enjoy life, oppose to worrying 'does my bum look big in these jeans?' It is not easy but here are tips on how to begin:
- Ask yourself, 'What's the worst that could happen?' 🤷🏻♀️
- Use uplifting music 💃🏼
- Face a fear/ try something new 🎢
- Create something, whether it's art or a cake, get your imagination active 🎨🍰
- Look in the mirror and say 'I can and I will'❗️
And if all else fails...
