Whether your decorating your bedroom to replicate the stranger things we ouija board from season one or heading out to see all the outdoor lights, without all the lights would Christmas really feel like Christmas?
There's something about being out in the cold wrapped in a fluffy coat sipping hot chocolate that makes us feel, well, warm. A feeling you can share with partners, friends, and family. When we were young we loved it when our parents would cover the house in an abundance of lights, so bright it hurt our eyes, but what was even better was when the whole street turns into a mini lit up wonderland with all the colours flashing. This is something we feel has been lost throughout the years, as not as many people decorate the outsides of their houses, so we have had to search for this feeling elsewhere. Which is why we are exploring London to find the most magical lights that give us all the Christmas feels!
Where else to start with the wonderland itself, Winter Wonderland! Between 2005 - 2008 Winter Wonderland began to build a name for itself as it found its footing by creating a one of a kind wonderland that held amusements, Father Christmas and a circus all in one. Now it has become a cult phenomenon which everyone simply must visit around the Christmas season or it just doesn't feel like Christmas. However, take away all of that Winter Wonderland still hold some of the most spectacular Christmas lights, which is why it never fails to come first on our Christmas must-see list.
Next, we have London Oxford Street which is home to 1,778 decorations which is 750,000 LED light bulbs, all of which are inspired by falling snowflakes. The turning on of the lights is a craze within itself and attracts thousand upon thousand of Christmas lovers to witness the display. However, if you go at a later date, you miss all the craziness yet still get to absorb the magic.
The oh-so-fashionable Carnaby Street will blast on its ostentatious Christmas lights with one of its famous shopping parties. Carnaby's Christmas decorations – usually among the most distinctive in town – will remain on display until January 5.
Our most favourite discovery we have come upon this year is the Christmas lights bike tour! A three-hour, two-wheel, trundle around the capital to see its prettiest festive illuminations. After meeting at The London Bicycle Tour Company’s Southbank HQ (where bikes, helmets and bike lights will be provided), the tour will take riders past a Christmas market and Big Ben and down to Sloane Square. Then it's on to Bond Street and Oxford Street, taking in some Christmas markets and a selection of London’s most recognisable and iconic landmarks. The tour also visits the Carnaby and Regent Street displays before concluding at the epicentre of London's lightstravaganza, Covent Garden. This is the perfect way to get all the beautiful lights in one fun go and you should definitely go and try it if you're not yet in the Christmas mood!
